A madrasa teacher in Narail has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old student, with the court also ordering him to pay a Tk300,000 fine that will go to the child’s family.
Judge Sheikh Shamidul Islam of the Narail Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict on Monday, according to public prosecutor Ajibur Rahman Aziz.
The convicted teacher, Meraj Ali, is the son of Aman Ullah Haque of Rudrapur Kaliabakri village in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga.
Aziz said the court sentenced Meraj to life imprisonment and fined him Tk300,000. The court ordered that the money recovered from the fine be given to the survivor’s family.
According to the case records, the 10-year-old boy was a student at Rahmania Taisirul Ulum Madrasa in the Raghunathpur area of Narail municipality.
On the night of July 10, 2025, Meraj called the child into his room and raped him.
The child was threatened and told not to disclose the abuse to anyone.
He later told his parents that the teacher had raped him multiple times over the preceding two months.
After the allegations became known, Meraj fled the madrasa.
Local residents apprehended him on July 12. The child’s mother subsequently filed a case with Narail Sadar Police Station.
The case eventually proceeded to the Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal, which convicted Meraj and imposed the life sentence and fine.
