US Prepares Three-Day Strike Plan Against Iran, Trump Rules Out Action Before Midterm Elections

- October 10, 2026, 04:05 PM ET

US President Donald Trump has instructed officials to develop plans for a possible resumption of military operations against Iran, but has indicated that attacks will not restart before the November 3 midterm elections, according to a report by The New York Times.

The Pentagon has been tasked with preparing potential strike options targeting Iran’s drone and missile arsenals, energy infrastructure and other military facilities, the newspaper reported.

According to people familiar with the discussions, US national security officials have proposed major military operations against Iran or the Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen five times in recent months. Trump rejected the proposals on each occasion.

However, the US president is now considering fresh military action against Iran. The New York Times reported that the latest plans were discussed at Camp David last Friday.

People briefed on the proposals said the concept under consideration involves a short but intense military campaign lasting three days.

The reported preparations come amid continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran, raising concerns about the possibility of renewed hostilities in the Middle East.

The plans remain under consideration, and the report does not indicate that a final decision to launch the proposed operation has been made.
