- October 10, 2026, 04:03 PM ET

OTTAWA, Canada : Musleh Uddin, a leader of the Canada chapter of Bangladesh Chhatra League, has met with Canadian members of parliament to discuss the human rights situation in Bangladesh following August 5, 2024.

The meeting took place at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, where Uddin raised allegations of attacks on students and teachers, mob violence and what he described as unjustified expulsions from educational institutions.

During the meeting, Uddin held discussions with MP Fayçal El-Khoury, chair of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights (SDIR) of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development. He reportedly presented documents and accounts concerning the human rights situation in Bangladesh.

According to the Canada chapter of Bangladesh Chhatra League, the discussion focused on alleged attacks on students and teachers at educational institutions, incidents of mob violence and the alleged arbitrary expulsion of students and teachers from schools, colleges and universities since August 5, 2024.

Uddin drew the Canadian lawmaker’s attention to these allegations and presented materials outlining the concerns raised by the organisation.

El-Khoury listened to the issues presented, the organisation said. He also assured the delegation, according to the Chhatra League, that the human rights situation in Bangladesh would remain a matter of concern and importance for his subcommittee.

Salma Zahid, MP and vice-chair of the Canada-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group, was also present at the meeting.

The Canada chapter of Bangladesh Chhatra League described the meeting as an effort to bring allegations concerning Bangladesh’s human rights situation to the attention of Canadian lawmakers.
