RIYADH — Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for a ballistic missile attack targeting King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said in a statement on Wednesday that the group’s forces had “just” targeted King Khalid International Airport with a ballistic missile.
Saree claimed the strike was accurate and said it disrupted air traffic at the airport.
In a separate statement, the Houthis also claimed to have targeted an area near Aden airport in Yemen, which is located in the vicinity of the country’s interim government’s seat.
The claims were reported by Dubai-based Gulf News. There was no immediate independent confirmation of the reported missile strike or the extent of any disruption to airport operations.
The latest claim comes amid continuing regional tensions involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia. The Houthis have previously launched missiles and drones toward Saudi territory, particularly during periods of heightened conflict in Yemen and the wider region.
