GOPALGANJ — Three people were killed and at least 30 others injured Sunday when a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch in Gopalganj’s Muksudpur upazila, police said.
The accident occurred at around 10:45 a.m. near Gerakhola Bridge on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway.
Police said the Tungipara Express bus was traveling from Khulna to Dhaka when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle in the Gerakhola area. The bus then veered off the highway and crashed into a ditch beside the bridge, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.
Three people died at the scene.
Police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the area after receiving reports of the crash and began rescue operations.
The injured were taken to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex. Twelve of them were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, according to the report.
The identities of those killed had not been confirmed as of the latest report.
Officials feared the casualty figure could rise because of the condition of some of the injured.
