DHAKA – The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a warning to Bangladeshi travelers about activities that are not permitted under B1/B2 visitor visas, emphasizing that the visas are intended only for temporary visits and specific authorized purposes.
The embassy issued the warning on Saturday through its verified Facebook page, outlining activities that visa holders are prohibited from engaging in while in the United States.
A B1/B2 visitor visa is generally used for short-term business activities, tourism, vacations and certain medical purposes. However, the embassy stressed that holding a visitor visa does not authorize travelers to undertake activities outside the scope of the visa.
According to the embassy, the following activities are not permitted under a B1/B2 visitor visa:
Birth tourism: Traveling to the United States primarily to give birth in order to obtain US citizenship for the child.
Unauthorized employment: Working for, or receiving compensation from, a US employer or business.
Formal study: Enrolling in a course of study that leads to a degree or institutional academic credit.
Paid work: Performing employment or other paid work that is not authorized under the terms of the visitor visa.
The embassy’s clarification comes as part of its efforts to remind visa applicants and travelers that a US visa does not automatically guarantee admission or permission to engage in any activity in the country.
Travelers are therefore advised to ensure that their intended activities comply with the conditions of their visa before traveling to the United States.
