Houthi Attack on Government Training Camp in Yemen Kills 73

- October 23, 2026, 04:43 AM ET

The death toll from a Houthi attack on a government training camp in Yemen’s Shabwa province has risen to 73, with 14 people still missing and more than 200 injured, Al Jazeera reported.
According to local authorities in Shabwa, three ballistic missiles were fired at newly recruited personnel during a training session.

Video verified by Reuters showed injured people and bloodied bodies scattered across the ground, highlighting the scale of the attack.

The strike comes as Yemeni government forces have launched an offensive this month to recapture areas under Houthi control. Government forces have reportedly retaken several areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
Meanwhile, Houthi fighters continue to besiege Taiz, a major urban stronghold of anti-Houthi forces in Yemen’s southern highlands.

The conflict in Yemen has become another front in the wider regional confrontation involving the United States, Israel and Iran. The Houthis have also carried out attacks targeting Riyadh International Airport and facilities belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco.

The latest attack underscores the continuing threat to security in Yemen as fighting intensifies across the country.
