US President Donald Trump warned Iran on Tuesday that it could face destruction if it fails to reach a deal with Washington to end the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking before world leaders at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said he could take severe action against Iran if no agreement is reached.
“Do I send them to hell, where they have no chance of coming back and there is no hope left for future generations?” Trump said in his address.
Despite the warning, Trump said he believed the United States and Iran could reach an agreement soon after the US midterm elections, scheduled for November 3.
“I believe we will have a deal shortly after the election because it makes no sense for them not to have a deal,” Trump said. “They’re just waiting to see what happens with me in the midterms.”
Trump also expressed optimism about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine.
He said an agreement between Moscow and Kyiv could be reached sooner than many people expect, adding that the United States was working closely with the leaders of both countries.
“We are working very closely with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, and we are going to get this settled,” Trump said. “I think it’s going to happen much faster than people think.”
