WASHINGTON, D.C. — A vibrant three-day FOBANA Convention, bringing together members of the Bangladeshi diaspora across North America, was held in New York from September 4 to 6, paying tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The convention drew enthusiastic participation from expatriate Bangladeshis, turning the three-day gathering into a lively celebration of community, culture and heritage.
Organizers said the convention was conducted under the guidance of FOBANA Chairman Zakaria Chowdhury and the strong leadership of Host Committee Convener Nurul Amin Babu.
Rooted in the spirit of Bangladesh’s Liberation War and honoring the memory and ideals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the convention sought to strengthen unity among Bangladeshis living in North America while promoting the country’s rich cultural heritage. Alongside the successful conclusion of the 40th convention, the host city and leadership for the next FOBANA Convention were also announced.
After four decades, FOBANA is returning to its birthplace. Washington, D.C., the city where FOBANA was established in 1987, will host the 41st FOBANA Convention during Labor Day Weekend in 2027. Veteran journalist Dastagir Jahangir will serve as President of the Host Committee.
Speaking on the occasion, Jahangir said, “An event of this scale, and a new initiative for our community, can never be successfully accomplished by one individual alone. It requires the collective effort, sincerity and commitment of all of us.
“To take FOBANA to new heights on the global stage and to deliver a truly memorable convention, we sincerely seek your support, thoughtful ideas and active participation.
“Let us join hands to strengthen our culture and heritage and work together to make the 41st FOBANA Convention a historic success.”
