Jordan Intercepts All Iranian Missiles Targeting US Bases

- September 01, 2026, 01:45 AM ET

Jordan has intercepted and destroyed all eight Iranian ballistic missiles launched toward two US military bases in the country, according to the Jordanian Armed Forces.

In a statement issued Monday, the Jordanian military said eight foreign ballistic missiles entered Jordanian airspace but were intercepted and destroyed by its air defence systems before they could strike any military or civilian targets.

The missile attack came hours after the US military carried out an air operation on Iran’s Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz region on Sunday night, destroying two launchers.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the two launchers had been used to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz.

The operation marked the first US attack on Iranian territory in nearly a month.
Iran reacted angrily to the surprise US strikes. Within hours, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched missiles targeting the King Hussein and Azraq US air bases in Jordan.

In a statement Monday morning, the IRGC claimed that its missile strikes had damaged technical and maintenance facilities at the two bases.

Jordanian authorities, however, said all eight missiles that entered its airspace had been intercepted before reaching their targets.
