Three people were killed in a violent attack in Faridpur district of Bangladesh late Monday night, police said.The incident took place around 10:00 p.m. in Gadadhardangi village under Aliaabad Union in Faridpur Sadar. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Akash Molla, allegedly used a spade to attack the victims, beating and hacking them to death.
The deceased were identified as Amena Begum, 75, the suspect’s grandmother; Saleha Begum, 55, his aunt; and Kabul Chowdhury, 49, a neighbor who was killed while trying to stop the attack.
Another resident, Riazul Islam, 38, was injured during the incident and has been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Local representatives said the suspect had a history of mental instability and erratic behavior. He was employed as a support staff member at a government tuberculosis hospital but was often irregular in his duties.
Police from Faridpur Kotwali Police Station confirmed the incident and said the suspect fled the scene. Multiple teams have been deployed to locate and arrest him.
Senior police officials visited the scene, and the bodies were recovered and sent to the morgue at Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Authorities said an investigation is underway and legal action is being processed.
