Manchester United took a significant step toward securing a Champions League place next season after defeating Brentford in a crucial English Premier League clash.

With the top five teams set to qualify for the next UEFA Champions League, United strengthened their position in the standings and moved closer to sealing a return to Europe’s elite competition.
After 34 matches, United sit third in the table with 61 points. Liverpool and Aston Villa are level on 58 points, occupying the next two positions. Brighton, in sixth place, trail by 11 points, giving United a comfortable buffer in the race for European qualification.

Strong start sets the tone
United made a confident start to the match, with captain Bruno Fernandes once again playing a key creative role. His corner delivery in the 11th minute led to Casemiro opening the scoring with a powerful header.

The Brazilian midfielder, who is expected to leave at the end of the season, celebrated passionately after scoring, kissing the club badge in front of the fans.

Sesko doubles the lead before half-time
Before the break, United doubled their advantage through Benjamin Šeško, who finished calmly after a well-worked counter-attack involving Fernandes.

Bruno Fernandes also continued to threaten Brentford’s defence, registering another assist that brings him close to a record 20-assist Premier League season.
Brentford fight back but fall short
Brentford improved after going behind,

creating several chances and testing United goalkeeper Senne Lammens. However, the visitors were repeatedly denied by strong defensive interventions.
United also survived a dangerous spell when a deflected ball nearly resulted in an own goal, but Lammens reacted quickly to keep his side ahead.

Late drama at both ends
Brentford pulled one goal back in the final minutes through Mathias Jensen, taking advantage of tired United defending. However, the comeback came too late.
United goalkeeper Lammens made a series of important saves, including a late header from Mikkel Damsgaard, to secure all three points for his side.
