Chattogram, April 23, 2026 — Bangladesh secured a comprehensive 55-run victory over New Zealand national cricket team in the third and final One Day International, sealing the series 2–1 in emphatic fashion.
Defending a competitive total of 265/8, Bangladesh bowled out New Zealand for 210 in 44.5 overs, thanks largely to a brilliant five-wicket haul by Mustafizur Rahman, who returned to the playing XI after missing the previous two matches.
Shanto and Litton Anchor the Innings
After a shaky start that saw Bangladesh lose three wickets for just 32 runs, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das steadied the innings with a crucial 160-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
Shanto led from the front with a composed 105 off 119 balls—his fourth ODI century—while Litton contributed a valuable 76, ending a long wait for a half-century. Their partnership laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s total, although a late slowdown restricted the hosts to 265.
Mustafizur’s Five-For Seals the Match
New Zealand began their chase steadily but struggled to maintain momentum as Bangladesh’s bowlers applied relentless pressure through the middle overs.
Mustafizur Rahman was the standout performer, finishing with figures of 5 for 43. He dismantled the middle order, including key wickets such as Nick Kelly, who top-scored with 59.
Fast bowler Nahid Rana and captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz provided strong support with two wickets each, ensuring New Zealand never fully recovered.
Late Resistance from Foxcroft Falls Short
At one stage reeling at 160 for 9, New Zealand showed late resistance through Dean Foxcroft, who played a remarkable innings of 75 off 72 balls, including seven sixes. His aggressive approach briefly threatened to narrow the margin, but lack of support from the other end ultimately sealed their fate.
Series Decider Dominated by Bangladesh
The match, played at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, served as the series decider after both teams had won one match each. Bangladesh’s all-round performance—anchored by Shanto’s century and Mustafizur’s bowling brilliance—proved decisive.
With this victory, Bangladesh not only clinched the series but also demonstrated strong resilience and depth ahead of future international assignments.
