In a major step toward transforming the future of filmmaking, Google has announced a $75 million investment in artificial intelligence-powered film production through a new partnership with A24, one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed independent studios.
According to reports by , Google’s AI research division DeepMind will work closely with A24 to develop advanced AI technologies designed to support filmmakers in their creative process.
Under the agreement, A24 will gain access to DeepMind’s research capabilities and technical infrastructure, while DeepMind’s researchers will collaborate directly with the studio to build new production workflows aimed at making filmmaking more efficient and innovative.
However, both parties have clarified that the deal does not grant Google access to A24’s film content library or proprietary archives.
, head of A24’s technology division A24 Labs, emphasized that the company does not view AI merely as a tool for cutting costs or speeding up production. Instead, he said, the goal is to create technology that expands creative possibilities while ensuring filmmakers retain full artistic control.
“We believe AI should be used in ways that preserve creative freedom,” Belsky said, adding that the tools under development will go beyond simple prompt-based image generation.
, Vice President of Product at DeepMind, said technological breakthroughs are most impactful when placed in the hands of top creative talent.
The partnership comes at a time when Hollywood is increasingly embracing AI. Lionsgate has already partnered with Runway, while Netflix recently acquired an AI startup focused on filmmaking tools.
Known for critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as , , and , A24 hopes the new collaboration will unlock groundbreaking possibilities in cinematic storytelling.
