Sammilito Samajik Andolon Holds Discussion Meeting on Independence Day

Sammilito Samajik Andolon organized a discussion meeting on Saturday, 28 March, to mark Independence Day 2026, bringing together intellectuals, freedom fighters, academics and civil society voices to reflect on the Liberation War and the state of the nation today.

The program was held at 4:30 PM at the Munir-Azad Seminar Hall of the Moni Singh–Farhad Trust in Dhaka. Professor Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain, eminent educationist and Chairperson of Sammilito Samajik Andolon, presided over the meeting.

Among the notable speakers were Dr. Sarwar Ali, Trustee of the Liberation War Museum, President of Chhayanaut and Presidium Member of the organization; Dr. Syed Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, Professor of International Relations at the University of Rajshahi and Presidium Member; Kajal Deb Nath, Presidium Member; Professor Dr. Shawkat Ara Hossain; freedom fighter Tofayel Ahmed; journalist Ashok Dhar; Oikko NAP General Secretary Advocate Asadullah Tarique; and the organization’s General Secretary Saleh Ahmed, along with members of the executive committee.

A condolence report was presented by Professor Jahangir Alam Sabuj, Organizing Secretary of Sammilito Samajik Andolon.

The session was conducted by A. K. Azad, Joint General Secretary of Sammilito Samajik Andolon.

The speakers discussed various aspects of the Liberation War at length, covering its historical context, the course of the armed struggle, and its goals and objectives, alongside the realities of the present day. They expressed the firm view that Bangladesh is not currently upholding the true spirit of the Liberation War, and called for a return to the ideals established through the sacrifices of millions of martyrs.

Emphasizing the need for national unity, democratic values and an unwavering commitment to justice, the speakers paid tribute to all those who gave their lives for the country’s independence.
