Light Up the Night’ program in Dhanmondi marks Genocide Day with solemn remembrance

Strong call for international recognition of March 25 as Genocide Day

Dhaka, March 25, 2026:
Commemorating the brutal genocide of the night of March 25, 1971, a candle-lighting and cultural program titled ‘Light Up the Night’ was held in Dhanmondi with due respect and solemnity.

Organized by residents of Dhanmondi, Lalmatia, and Mohammadpur, the event took place on Road 27 in Dhanmondi and began at 7:00 PM. The program witnessed spontaneous participation from people of all walks of life, creating an emotional and reflective atmosphere.
Freedom fighters, members of the younger generation, cultural activists, and people from various professions gathered to light candles in unison, paying heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of March 25, 1971.

The cultural segment featured songs from the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and patriotic music based on the Liberation War, inspiring a renewed sense of patriotism and historical awareness among the audience.

The organizers stated that the demand for international recognition of March 25 as Genocide Day is now a pressing issue. They urged the global community to acknowledge the 1971 mass killings as an internationally recognized genocide.
The organizing committee expressed sincere gratitude to all participants for their spontaneous involvement and collective efforts, which ensured the peaceful and orderly completion of the program.
