Sheikh Hasina, President of the Bangladesh Awami League, has extended her heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasion of Independence and National Day, underscoring the importance of unity and resilience amid ongoing challenges.
In her message, she recalled the historic declaration made by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on March 26, 1971, which marked the birth of Bangladesh. Quoting his iconic call to resist Pakistani forces, she highlighted how the message spread rapidly across the country and inspired the people to rise against oppression.
Hasina paid deep tribute to Bangabandhu, describing him as the greatest Bengali of all time, whose visionary leadership led to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh. She also remembered the national four leaders, the valiant freedom fighters, the three million martyrs, and the countless women who endured atrocities during the Liberation War.
Referring to the current context, she said the country is passing through a critical and challenging time. She alleged that when Bangladesh was advancing steadily toward prosperity, “anti-liberation forces,” supported by both domestic and foreign elements, have been attempting to undermine the nation’s achievements.
However, she expressed firm confidence in the resilience of the Bangladeshi people. Drawing parallels with 1971, Hasina said that just as the masses united under the leadership of Bangabandhu and the Awami League to secure victory, the people would once again rise with the same spirit of patriotism.
She asserted that no conspiracy would be able to suppress the nation, and that unity among the জনগণ would ultimately defeat all ষড়যন্ত্র (conspiracies), leading Bangladesh toward renewed victory.
Concluding her message, Sheikh Hasina extended warm greetings to all citizens at home and abroad, reiterating the enduring slogans of the Liberation War — “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu” — and expressing hope for a brighter, stronger, and enduring future for Bangladesh.
