US Approves $30 Million Aid for Controversial Gaza Relief Organization

The United States has approved direct assistance of $30 million for the Israel-backed controversial aid organization Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). However, international concern is growing over deadly attacks on Palestinians trying to collect food aid near the organization’s distribution centers. On Thursday, US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigot told reporters, “We call on other countries to support the important work of GHF.”Founded in May this year, the organization has faced criticism from the start. The United Nations and international human rights organizations have refused to work with GHF.They allege that the organization coordinates with the Israeli military and distributes aid through armed security contractors hired from the United States—actions that violate humanitarian principles.
