An Air India flight from Frankfurt to New Delhi made an emergency landing at Jaipur International Airport in Rajasthan on Wednesday morning following a hijack alert, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
The Boeing 787-9 aircraft, operating as flight AI 2030, was diverted after transmitting transponder code 7500, the internationally recognised signal for an aircraft hijacking or unlawful interference, according to India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Air traffic control received the signal from the pilot-in-command and redirected the aircraft to Jaipur. After landing safely, the plane was moved to a designated isolation bay as a security precaution.
However, Assistant Commissioner of Police Shiv Dayal, based in Malviya Nagar, told the Press Trust of India (PTI) that airport authorities had informed police about the emergency landing following information about a bomb threat.
Security personnel from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), airport security agencies and local police subsequently carried out security checks. Passengers and pilots were disembarked in stages and searched, while India’s National Security Guard (NSG) was kept on standby in Delhi.
The DGCA and other aviation authorities are investigating the incident to establish the cause of the alert. The aircraft has since been declared safe, according to the report.
