American Airlines Cancels Flights to Three Destinations

- October 18, 2026, 04:56 PM ET

American Airlines has suspended flights to three destinations in 2026, citing geopolitical tensions and insufficient passenger demand, according to the New York Post.

The Texas-based airline disconthasanul-haq-inu-prison-rights-accused-duty-featureded services to Santa Maria in California, Tijuana in Mexico and Doha in Qatar. The cancellations affected one domestic route and two international routes.

The most significant suspension was the Philadelphia–Doha nonstop service, which the airline disconthasanul-haq-inu-prison-rights-accused-duty-featureded in March amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and weaker-than-expected commercial performance.

The 14.5-hour flight covered approximately 6,798 miles, making it the longest route departing from Philadelphia International Airport. Qatar Airways, American Airlines’ alliance partner, subsequently launched daily flights on the route in August.

American Airlines has also extended the suspension of its New York–Tel Aviv service through March 2027. The route was suspended following the October 7, 2023, attacks. United Airlines has also suspended some international services amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

Meanwhile, the airline disconthasanul-haq-inu-prison-rights-accused-duty-featureded its Phoenix–Tijuana route and services to Santa Maria for commercial reasons. The Santa Maria route operated from October 2015 until May 2026 before being dropped due to insufficient passenger demand.

Despite the cancellations, American Airlines plans to introduce seven new international routes in 2027.

The planned additions include flights from Philadelphia to Porto in Portugal, Vienna in Austria and Reykjavik in Iceland.

The route changes reflect the airline’s efforts to adjust its international and domestic network in response to geopolitical uncertainty and changing travel demand.
