- October 08, 2026, 03:14 PM ET

A young man in northern Bangladesh has accused a group of men of sexually assaulting him, filming the attack and subsequently demanding 200,000 taka (about $1,600) by threatening to circulate the video online.

The alleged assault took place in the Nayapara Rashidpur area of Salanga, under Ullapara Upazila in Sirajganj district, according to a written complaint filed with police.

The complainant, Milon Hossain, named eight men and several unidentified accomplices in his complaint to Salanga Police Station.

The eight named individuals are Hridoy Hossain, Shafi Ahmed, Naim Ahmed, Siam Hossain, Monirul Islam, Qaiyum, Tuhin and Shafiqul Islam, all from Nayapara Rashidpur village under Hatikumrul Union.

According to the complaint and local sources, Milon had traveled to the area to visit a relative.

While he was standing near a local shop at night, the accused allegedly lured him to a secluded bamboo grove nearby.

The complaint alleges that several men, including Monirul Islam, threatened Milon and sexually assaulted him against his will.

Some of the accused allegedly recorded the assault on their mobile phones.

The attackers fled when local residents rushed toward the scene after hearing Milon’s cries for help, according to the complaint.

The alleged perpetrators later contacted one of Milon’s relatives through the messaging application imo and demanded 200,000 taka, threatening to distribute the recorded video on social media if the money was not paid.

Milon said he discussed the incident with his family and local residents before submitting a written complaint to Salanga Police Station on Sept. 28.

He demanded a thorough investigation and appropriate punishment for those responsible.

Salanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aslam Ali confirmed receiving the complaint.

He said police were investigating the allegations and would take legal action against anyone found to be involved.

Police have already arranged a medical examination of the complainant, but the medical report has not yet been received, Ali said.

Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the allegations.
