MANIKGANJ — Three members of a family, including a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, were found dead inside their home in Manikganj district on Saturday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Ikram Hossain, his wife Priyanka Akter, 24, and their daughter Aliza Akter.
Police said Priyanka and the child were found dead inside a room at their home in Jannakandi village, in Manikganj Sadar upazila. Ikram’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the same room.
Police said their preliminary assessment was that Ikram may have killed his wife and daughter before taking his own life. Authorities, however, have not established the circumstances of the deaths or a possible motive.
Local residents said Ikram had returned to Bangladesh from abroad some time ago and had been living with his family. Police said they were investigating whether a family dispute, financial difficulties or other circumstances may have been involved.
Md Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Manikganj Sadar police station, confirmed the incident and said police had been sent to the scene after receiving the report.
The bodies were being taken to the morgue at Manikganj Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations, police said.
Investigators said the exact circumstances and cause of the deaths would be determined after the investigation and autopsies.
The incident drew relatives and local residents to the house, where the deaths of the three family members caused shock in the community.
