DHAKA — Police in Bangladesh have detained 23 people on suspicion of links to militant activities after they were allegedly found holding a private meeting at a mosque on the premises of Tejgaon College in Dhaka’s Farmgate area, according to police.

The group was taken into custody on Friday afternoon and was being held at Tejgaon Police Station, a senior official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon division said.

The official said police detained the group while they were allegedly holding a private meeting inside the college mosque, based on information received through intelligence channels.

“We suspect they are involved in militant activities,” the officer said.

Officials from Bangladesh’s Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit were examining the case, the official said.

Authorities were also verifying the identities and backgrounds of those detained, with further details expected after the investigation, he added.

The detainees had not been publicly identified, and the allegation of links to militant activities had not been independently established at the time of publication
