At least 16 people were killed and more than 50 others injured in a suspected suicide bombing at a police compound in northwestern Pakistan during Friday prayers, authorities said.
The attack took place on Friday, September 18, at the Old Police Lines in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to local broadcaster Geo News, a vehicle laden with explosives rammed into the gate of the Old Police Lines, triggering a powerful blast.
Tahir Ali Shah, a senior official at Kohat District Hospital, said the bodies of 15 victims had been brought to the facility, along with several injured people.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police later confirmed that 16 people had been killed, including 11 civilians and five police officers.
Police also said a suspected militant was killed in the explosion.
The blast created a large crater outside a mosque inside the police compound, according to authorities.
The attack occurred as people were gathering for Friday prayers. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing.
