RIYADH — A fire broke out at a fuel tank operated by Saudi oil giant Aramco near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, after multiple loud explosions were heard across the Saudi capital, according to an AFP journalist at the scene.
Images from the site showed flames engulfing the affected fuel tank, which bore the Saudi Aramco logo. Firefighters and emergency response teams were seen working to contain the blaze.
Local residents and social media users reported hearing several powerful explosions in and around Riyadh before the fire was reported.
The cause of the incident and whether there were any casualties were not immediately confirmed by Saudi authorities.
Several emergency and firefighting units were dispatched to the site and were working to bring the blaze under control.
