MUMBAI – Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald has expressed a strong interest in making a documentary about Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, saying he remains fascinated by the actor’s extraordinary global popularity and the story behind his success.
In a recent interview, Macdonald revealed that he had previously held preliminary discussions with Khan about a possible documentary. The project, however, did not move forward because the timing was not right.
Macdonald said he remains interested in exploring the life and international appeal of the Indian cinema icon. With a touch of humour, he suggested that Khan might get back in touch with him in the future to revive discussions about the project.
Modi also on filmmaker’s wish list
Khan is not the only prominent Indian figure Macdonald would like to feature in a documentary. The filmmaker also expressed an interest in making a project about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Macdonald has built a reputation for documentaries focusing on high-profile personalities and major cultural and sporting figures.
From Guardiola to Hollywood
The filmmaker recently directed “A Beautiful Obsession,” a four-part documentary series following Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola during the final two seasons of his successful tenure.
Macdonald is now preparing to return to feature filmmaking alongside his documentary work.
His upcoming film “The Runner,” starring Hollywood actress Gal Gadot, is set to begin production soon.
