Qatar Mediators Return to Tehran in Bid to Revive US-Iran Deal

- November 04, 2026, 06:57 AM ET

A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday to meet senior Iranian officials, as diplomatic efforts intensify to revive stalled negotiations between the United States and Iran.

The delegation arrived on Friday morning for talks on bilateral relations and regional developments, Iranian state media reported, citing the official IRNA news agency.

The team is led by a senior adviser to Qatar’s prime minister and foreign minister. According to Al Jazeera, Qatari mediators have returned to Tehran in coordination with Washington to explore a possible agreement aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries.

The latest diplomatic initiative follows a letter reportedly sent by US Vice President JD Vance to Iran’s security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, seeking to restart negotiations, The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

A senior Iranian official told the semi-official Fars News Agency on Thursday that Tehran had received the message but had yet to respond.

The diplomatic efforts come amid heightened tensions following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28. Tehran subsequently launched retaliatory attacks against Israel and US military bases in several Arab countries.

In June, Washington and Tehran signed a framework agreement and began negotiations. However, the talks collapsed over disagreements concerning freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important routes for global energy supplies and trade.

Qatar has played a key mediating role in regional diplomacy, and its latest intervention could offer a renewed opportunity to bring Washington and Tehran back to the negotiating table.
