A 43-year-old salon owner was allegedly stabbed to death in three separate attacks in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh on Tuesday evening, with a man named Saddam Hossain accused of carrying out the killing.
The incident took place in the Noman Composite Muktijoddha Market area of Jamirdia in Bhaluka on October 27.
The victim, Rabindra Rishi, was the son of Ranjit Rishi of Uttarpara in Dhobaura upazila. He lived in a rented house in the Tariff Munshi Mor area of Jamirdia and ran a salon there. The accused, Saddam, is the son of Babul Mia, a resident of the same area.
Rabindra’s wife, Suchitra, alleged that Saddam frequently demanded money from her husband to buy drugs and often refused to pay after getting his hair cut at the salon. She said the two had been involved in a dispute over unpaid bills and Rabindra’s refusal to cut Saddam’s hair. Saddam had also allegedly threatened to kill her husband.
The victim’s family also said a local mediation meeting had been held about three months ago following allegations that Saddam had harassed Rabindra’s daughter. They suspect the earlier incident may also have contributed to the attack.
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, Saddam entered Rabindra’s salon and stabbed him. Rabindra fled to Saddam’s father’s shop in an attempt to escape, but was allegedly stabbed repeatedly there as well.
He then tried to take shelter in a nearby house, where he was attacked again in the courtyard. He died at the scene.
The allegations against Saddam could not be independently verified, and further details about the police investigation and any arrest were not immediately available.
