DINAJPUR — Around 4,000 metric tonnes of diesel imported from India have reached the Parbatipur Receiving Terminal Depot in Dinajpur through the Bangladesh-India Friendship Pipeline, according to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The shipment, equivalent to approximately 4.7 million litres of diesel, is part of the pipeline’s 72nd consignment.
Md Robiul, operations manager of the Parbatipur Rail Depot, said the handover process began at 9am on Sunday, Sept. 13, and was completed on Tuesday afternoon.
Under a bilateral agreement signed in 2018, Bangladesh and India agreed to import around 2 million tonnes of diesel over a 15-year period.
Since the pipeline was inaugurated in March 2023, Bangladesh has imported approximately 330,087 tonnes of diesel through the facility.
The imported fuel is distributed in roughly equal quantities among three state-owned oil marketing companies — Padma Oil Company, Meghna Petroleum and Jamuna Oil Company.
The Bangladesh section of the Friendship Pipeline is 126.57 kilometres long, running through parts of Panchagarh, Nilphamari and Dinajpur before reaching the Parbatipur terminal.
The pipeline has been established to facilitate the direct transportation of petroleum products from India to Bangladesh, supporting the country’s fuel supply and distribution network.
