Russia- India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a wide-ranging meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, discussing bilateral cooperation, regional hotspots, global challenges and various multilateral issues.
“Had a wide-ranging conversation this evening with FM Sergey Lavrov of Russia,” Jaishankar said in a post on social media.
He said the discussions covered the two countries’ bilateral cooperation as well as regional and global developments.
The meeting comes as India and Russia continue to strengthen their strategic partnership amid major geopolitical challenges. The two sides have maintained close diplomatic and economic ties, particularly in areas such as energy, defence, trade and technology.
Jaishankar’s meeting with Lavrov was part of his ongoing engagement with Russian leaders during his visit to Russia. The talks are also expected to help advance coordination between the two countries on key international and multilateral platforms.
The discussions come against the backdrop of continuing geopolitical tensions and conflicts in several parts of the world, making regular consultations between India and Russia significant for their bilateral relationship as well as broader regional and global issues.
