BARISHAL, Bangladesh, 12 August — An explosive device detonated inside the compounds of the Barishal District and Sessions Judge Court on Wednesday morning, in what legal observers and local officials described as a deliberate attempt by anti-secular and right-wing political elements to instill terror and destabilize the judicial infrastructure.
The blast occurred at approximately 10:45 AM local time near the primary entryway of the court facility, adjacent to the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court building. While no fatalities or major physical injuries were reported, the explosion triggered widespread panic among civil litigators, judicial officials, and citizens visiting the premises.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from the site showed a brief period of normal activity followed by a sudden detonation near the main entrance gate’s western pillar. Forensic teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and specialized Bomb Disposal Units arrived shortly after to cordoned off the perimeter and extract critical material evidence.
“This calculated act of violence directly targets the rule of law and the constitutional spirit born out of our 1971 independence,” stated senior court prosecutors in Barishal. “Anti-state conspirators seeking to undermine public security and destroy secular democratic values are attempting to create an atmosphere of anarchy across key state organs.”
Law Enforcement Response and Security Measures
Senior officials from the Barishal Metropolitan Police, alongside the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), inspected the blast zone and confirmed that law enforcement has been deployed to bolster security across all judicial establishments in the district.
“Our bomb disposal and crime scene units have collected residue and physical samples from the site for chemical analysis,” police officials confirmed. “We are conducting a comprehensive review of all surrounding security footage to trace the perpetrators responsible for planning and executing this act of sabotage.”
