ANKARA, Turkey, July 8— U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States is preparing to launch another round of “very strong” military strikes against Iran later on Wednesday, following attacks carried out a day earlier.
Speaking to reporters before a bilateral meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump issued what he described as an advance warning of the planned operation.
“I’m giving a little advance warning: Tonight we’re going to hit them very hard,” Trump said, referring to Iran.
The U.S. president expressed dissatisfaction with Iran’s recent actions but emphasized that Washington is not seeking to overthrow the Iranian government. Instead, he reiterated that the United States’ primary objective is to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump stressed that while regime change is not a U.S. policy goal, preventing Iran from developing a nuclear arsenal remains a top national security priority.
The latest remarks come amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran following recent military exchanges, raising concerns over the potential for a broader regional conflict.
