Former Member of Parliament (MP) and former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League Mahbub Hasan Ripon has demanded an investigation into the alleged killings of Awami League and Chhatra League activists in the Turag area.

In a statement sent to the media on Saturday (June 27), Ripon claimed that the partially decomposed bodies of three activists were recovered from the Turag River, while four others remain missing.

He alleged that the incident took place after an attack on a procession organized by Turag Thana Awami League and Chhatra League on June 22. According to his statement, several activists were tortured and killed after the attack, and their bodies were later dumped into the river.

Ripon further alleged that programmes marking the Awami League’s founding anniversary were obstructed in different areas and claimed that security forces were deployed to prevent those activities. He also accused BNP and Jamaat activists of carrying out attacks against political opponents.

He said Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists were being targeted due to their political identity and alleged that some party members were being subjected to planned killings while in custody.

“Awami League cannot be suppressed through killings, enforced disappearances, or repression,” Ripon said, adding that party activists would continue to maintain their political position.

He demanded that those responsible be identified, brought under legal action, and given the highest punishment.

The allegations made by Mahbub Hasan Ripon could not be independently verified.
