US President Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to visit the White House in September for a new round of high-level bilateral talks.
The invitation was extended during a meeting between the two leaders at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday. According to reports, Trump proposed September 24 as the date for the summit in Washington.
Trump also invited China’s First Lady Peng Liyuan to accompany Xi during the proposed state visit.
The development comes amid Trump’s ongoing visit to China, marking his first trip to Beijing in nearly a decade. His previous visit to the Asian power took place in 2017 during his first term in office.
The latest diplomatic engagement between Washington and Beijing is being closely watched as both countries continue discussions on trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, and broader geopolitical tensions.
Analysts say the proposed White House summit could play a significant role in shaping the future direction of US-China relations at a time of growing global uncertainty.
