Washington, May 6, 2026 — The United States has announced the end of its military strikes against Iran, declaring that the joint US-Israel campaign, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” has successfully achieved its objectives.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the operation had concluded and that the aggressive phase of the conflict was now over. He emphasized that Washington considers its immediate military goals fulfilled.
Rubio also indicated a shift in US strategy, noting that President Donald Trump is now prioritizing diplomacy. According to him, the administration aims to reach an agreement with Iran, potentially including a memorandum of understanding to fully restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global oil transit route.
“The president prefers the path of dialogue,” Rubio said, while adding that Iran has not yet agreed to engage in negotiations.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East following days of military escalation involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz remains a key international concern, given its importance to global energy supplies and maritime trade.
There has been no immediate official response from Tehran regarding the US statement or the prospect of renewed talks.
