The United States is set to hold a second round of direct talks with Iran on Monday in Islamabad, as diplomatic efforts continue amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to the White House, the US delegation will be led by Vice President JD Vance and will include special envoy Steve Witkoff and senior advisor Jared Kushner. The same team represented Washington during the first round of negotiations.
Ahead of the talks, President Donald Trump issued a strong warning to Tehran, accusing Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement by opening fire in the Strait of Hormuz. He cautioned that failure to accept the US proposal could lead to severe consequences.
“If they do not accept it, the United States will destroy every power plant and every bridge in Iran,” Trump said in a social media post.
The upcoming negotiations come at a critical moment, with both sides facing mounting pressure to de-escalate tensions and avoid further conflict in the region.
