U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has requested a ceasefire amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Iran’s president has just asked the United States for a ceasefire.” However, he made it clear that Washington would only consider such a proposal if the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened and secured for international shipping.
“When the Strait of Hormuz is open, free, and clear, we will consider it,” Trump stated, adding a strong warning that the U.S. would otherwise continue its offensive posture against Iran.
According to AFP, there has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian officials or independent sources regarding the alleged ceasefire request.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global oil transit route, and any disruption there has significant implications for international energy markets and regional stability.
