US Senator Bernie Sanders has firmly rejected a proposed $200 billion war fund related to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, stating he would “never support” such a measure.
In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Sanders announced plans to introduce a joint resolution aimed at blocking the transfer of weapons to Israel. The proposed measure seeks to stop the delivery of approximately 20,000 bombs and bulldozers.
Sanders accused the United States of playing a direct role in initiating the conflict alongside Israel, warning that the war is contributing to a growing humanitarian crisis across the Middle East.
He also highlighted the economic consequences of the conflict, noting that rising fuel prices are placing additional strain on ordinary Americans. “Gas prices are increasing, and people are worried,” Sanders said.
Questioning Washington’s longstanding alliance with Israel, Sanders described its military campaign in Gaza as “devastating” and raised concerns over whether such a partnership should continue under current circumstances.
The senator further cautioned that the total cost of the war could exceed hundreds of billions of dollars, significantly increasing the financial burden on US citizens.
The conflict, which reportedly escalated on February 28 with airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel on Iran, has already resulted in more than 1,300 deaths, according to various sources.
