Bangladesh Raises Jet Fuel Prices by Nearly 80%

Price hike to affect domestic and international flights starting March 25

Bangladesh has approved a significant increase in jet fuel prices, with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announcing an 80 percent hike in a single adjustment.

The decision was made on Tuesday (March 24) during an emergency virtual meeting attended by senior officials from Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and Padma Oil Company.

Fuel prices jump sharply
For domestic flights, jet fuel prices have risen from 112.41 taka per liter to 202.29 taka per liter, an increase of 89.88 taka, or roughly 80 percent.

For international flights, the price has increased from $0.7384 per liter to $1.3216 per liter, a rise of about 79 percent.

Effective from midnight
Officials confirmed that the new rates will take effect from midnight on March 24 (early March 25).
The sharp increase is expected to raise airline operating costs and could result in higher airfares for passengers on both domestic and international routes.
