Chhatra League chants ‘Joy Bangla’ at DU, attempts brief gathering at Raju Sculpture
For the first time since August 5, 2024, activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League staged a flash procession in broad daylight on the Dhaka University (DU) campus under the organization’s banner. Around 18 to 20 activists took part, chanting slogans including “Joy Bangla.”
Later, they attempted to stay briefly at the base of the Raju Sculpture near the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), but soon dispersed.
According to the organization, the protest procession was held on Sunday morning (March 22), the second day of Eid, demanding the release of all “political prisoners.”
Sources said the procession began midway along the road from Doel Chattar toward TSC. Participants were seen chanting various slogans as they marched.
They later attempted to hold a brief position at the Raju Sculpture before leaving the area shortly afterward.
Photos and videos of the incident were later shared on various Awami League-affiliated Facebook pages and personal accounts.
As this marks the first public programme under the Chhatra League banner on campus since the August 5 mass uprising, a section of pro-liberation teachers and students view it as a positive development.
