Trump Warns BRICS-Aligned Countries Will Face Additional 10% Tariffs

The Hague, June 25, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday warned that countries aligning themselves with what he called the “anti-American policies” of the BRICS bloc would face an additional 10% tariff on their exports to the United States.

“Any country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Trump did not elaborate on which policies he considers “anti-American,” nor did he provide further context about how alignment with BRICS would be assessed.

BRICS—originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—has expanded in recent years to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The bloc held its first summit in 2009 and has since positioned itself as a counterweight to Western-led economic and political institutions.

The announcement came as Trump attended the NATO summit in The Hague, where he met with the alliance’s Secretary General. His comments underscore the increasingly hardline trade stance his administration has taken in recent months, amid growing tensions with countries perceived as moving closer to rival economic alliances.
