The Voice News: At least five students from BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, have died after a plane crash in India. The tragic incident occurred on Thursday (12 June) when the aircraft crashed onto the dormitory of BJ Medical College shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
The Air India flight was en route from Ahmedabad to London, carrying 242 passengers, all of whom reportedly perished in the crash, according to news outlet News18.
Multiple dormitory buildings were reduced to rubble by the impact. In one photograph, untouched plates of food can be seen on tables in the college canteen, suggesting that many students were having lunch when the crash occurred—lunch they never got to finish.
Following the crash, fire broke out in parts of the aircraft and several buildings in the dormitory complex. A video published by NDTV shows several injured students being rushed to hospitals. The scene quickly descended into chaos as many people were seen carrying the wounded for treatment.
It has been reported that at least 40 students were injured in the incident, with one in critical condition. Dr. Shyam Govind, an eyewitness, said, “I and some of my junior doctors were also injured. Around 30 to 40 students were hurt, among them a few are in serious condition.”
A woman named Ramila stated that her son was having lunch in the canteen at the time of the accident. To save his life, he jumped from the second floor.
