London, March 3, 2025:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed optimism about restoring relations with the United States despite a heated exchange with US President Donald Trump at the White House. He emphasized that future discussions should take place behind closed doors.
During a meeting with European leaders in London, Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine would not cede any territory to Russia as part of a peace agreement. He also stated his continued interest in signing a mineral resource agreement with the United States. Zelensky discussed sending a draft peace plan, developed with European leaders, to the US as a significant step forward.
In a historic live-broadcast meeting at the Oval Office last Friday, Trump accused Zelensky of being ungrateful for US support and suggested that his actions were risking a third world war. This incident raised questions about Washington’s support for Ukraine.
Speaking to journalists at a London airport after the summit, Zelensky expressed gratitude to European nations and shared his disappointment over the Oval Office incident. He maintained an open approach to future talks with the US.
Zelensky said, “When it comes to restoring relations, I believe our relationship will continue.” He added that open discussions might not always provide positive outcomes or benefits as partners.
Zelensky emphasized that he does not believe the US would stop supporting Ukraine, as it would not want to aid Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, he remained prepared for any outcome.
