Will Smith Returns to Music After 20 Years

After two decades away from the music scene, Will Smith has confirmed his much-anticipated return with the release of his new album, Based On A True Story. Set to drop on March 28, the album features 14 fresh tracks and a star-studded lineup of guest artists.

Taking to Instagram, Smith shared the cover art and tracklist, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the photoshoot for the album cover. In his post, Smith wrote, “It’s OFFICIAL!! My new album Based On A True Story drops March 28. TWO WEEKS!! Hit that presave. Been working on this project for a minute and I’m itchin’ to get it out to y’all 🫶🏾.”

The album will feature collaborations with some familiar names, including Teyana Taylor, Smith’s son Jaden, and his long-time collaborator and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star DJ Jazzy Jeff. Already, Smith has released four tracks from the album as singles: Beautiful Scars (featuring Big Sean and OBanga), Work of Art (featuring Jaden), Tantrum (featuring Joyner Lucas), and You Can Make It.

Smith’s announcement has sparked a wave of excitement from fans and fellow celebrities alike. Longtime collaborator DJ Jazzy Jeff shared a row of flame emojis in the comments, while Busta Rhymes and singer Mario also expressed their enthusiasm. Fans have flooded the comments section, with many expressing their excitement at Smith’s return to music after such a long hiatus. One fan commented, “This is major! Will Smith did the unthinkable in 2025 – reviving his relevance in the music industry after a 20-year hiatus, something no major label could accomplish.”

The upcoming album marks a significant return for the multifaceted entertainer, who first made waves in the music industry in the late ’80s as part of the iconic duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.

Based On A True Story is expected to bring a fresh sound and energy to the music industry, with Smith’s loyal fanbase eagerly awaiting its release later this month.
