Wife charges false case against 130 people, including ousted PM Hasina for ‘pretending her dead’ husband

After three months, husband Al Amin appeared at the police station with his father and brothers

Three months after the wife filed a death case against 130 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the husband appeared at the police station, alleging that the husband was “killed” during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bangladesh. He said it was “unfortunate” for him.

Al Amin, a South Surma of Sylhet resident, appeared at South Surma police station on November 11 night around 9 pm along with his father and two brothers. He claimed that without his knowledge, his wife Kulsoom filed the murder case by ‘showing him dead’ in the Dhaka court, which the Ashulia police station in Savar is now investigating.

When the matter came to light, it was discussed in the local area. In the evening, South Surma police station OC Abul Hossain told the media that Al Amin told everything in the video while sitting at the police station about being alive. As the murder case is under investigation by Ashulia police station, investigating officer SI Rakib came and took him away yesterday morning.
The OC said Al Amin’s family has lived in the Pirojpur area of South Surma in Sylhet for 40 years. He used to live in Moulvibazar Juri due to work. His father-in-law’s house is in Ashulia.

Police officers said that the incident took place when several people were killed in a clash with the police in the Ashulia police station area during the student-public movement on August 5, the day the government fell. At that time, dead bodies piled in vans created a sensation across the country. One of the deaths remains unidentified.

On October 24, Kulsum filed a case against 130 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, claiming that the unknown person was her husband, Al Amin. On the court’s order, it was registered at the Ashulia police station on November 8, and the police started an investigation.
However, few reporters started searching because they suspected Kulsoom’s abnormal behaviour. Sensational information emerged from this.

Later, RAB traced the information that Kulsoom’s husband, Al Amin, was staying in the South Surma police station area of Sylhet. Talking to him, the RAB members confirmed that Al Amin, who was shown dead in the case, is alive.
In a video interview, he said, “Brother, I am not dead; what can I do if someone strips papers without my knowledge? I didn’t know that my wife was suing me after pretending to be dead. When I heard, I ran away in fear. If one’s wife files a false case against her husband as dead, then that husband is most unfortunate.”

Highlighting the fact that they have a daughter, Al Amin said, “Times were not going well as the family quarrel increased for several months. My wife and I stayed in Moulvibazar during the whole period of turmoil in the country. At that time, I did not go to Ashulia even once. But my wife filed a false case showing me as dead.”

After seeing the picture of his wife in this case, Al Amin is sure that the person in the picture is his wife.

Al Amin’s elder brother, Jahangir Alam, said, “My brother is alive. He told me three days ago about the case. Al Amin also went to the police station but could not show any solution from the police station. So he ran away in fear. As soon as RAB learns about the matter, ask brother to come to South Surma police station.”

Al Amin’s father, Nurul Islam, shocked by the case of his son being found dead, said, “Our whole family is scared because of this.” It does not even come to mind why the son’s wife, Kulsoom, did this. Kulsoom is also not talking about the matter.”

Ashulia Police Station OC Abu Bakar and Investigation Officer Rakib were contacted over the phone but did not respond.

The media could not get the statement of Al Amin’s wife, Kulsum.
