Wicked Breaks Another Record with Digital Release

Superhit musical Wicked continues to dominate at the box office and has maintained its global influence for several weeks now. The film has been lauded by audiences and has won numerous awards. Fans are optimistic about its success at the upcoming Oscars.

Now, Wicked has made headlines again by breaking yet another impressive record in its first week of digital release. After several successful weeks at the box office, Wicked has secured its place as the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time, grossing over $600 million worldwide. The film recently made its digital debut and has now set a new record.

According to a report by Variety, the film earned $26 million on its first day and $70 million in its first week of digital release in the United States and Canada. This achievement has earned Wicked the record for the largest first-day and first-week sales for any Universal theatrical title.

Wicked was released digitally on December 31, 2024, for audiences in the US and Canada, followed by a release in the UK on January 3, 2025.

The digital version includes a sing-along feature, 10 deleted or extended scenes, and a special behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Wicked. These additional features are believed to have sparked even more interest among online viewers.

Additionally, it has been announced that the second part of Wicked, titled Wicked: For Good, will be released in cinemas on November 21, 2025. The cast, including Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Ariana Grande (Glinda), Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero), Michelle Yeoh (Madame Morrible), and Jeff Goldblum (The Wizard), will reprise their roles.
