Who is City’s new Brazilian defender for 49 million euros

You can dominate the fight for possession of the ball, you can become a threat to the opponent at the moment the ball floats in the air, you can be very good at passing, with excellent leadership qualities – Manchester City was looking for such a person. They finally get him.

His name is Reyes. City are bringing the 19-year-old Brazilian centre-back from Palmeiras. The BBC, Sky Sports, Daily Mail, Goal.com and several media outlets have reported that Palmeiras have agreed to release Reyes after weeks of negotiations. He is now on his way to Manchester. If all goes well after the physical examination, City will soon introduce him as their footballer at the Etihad.

Reyes was born on January 12, 2006 in Santana, a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. He started his football career at the R10 academy in Paraiba state. The academy is owned by former Brazilian forward Robinho. He also spent two seasons at City.

From there, Reyes joined the Palmeiras academy in 2016. He joined the main team in June last year. He was signed by Palmeiras until 2028. He has played 22 matches for the club so far. In the 18 matches played in Brazil’s top league, he was in the starting XI. He has made a great contribution to make the team runners-up of the league. He has not yet been called up to the Brazilian national team. However, he played 16 matches for the age-group team (Under-16 and Under-17)

Guardiola did not get two regular center-backs John Stones and Ruben Diaz due to injury. Defender and team captain Kyle Walker also did not play due to a middle illness. Walker said a few days ago that he no longer wanted to stay in the city. He can join the Italian club AC Milan in the winter transfer.
The absence of top defenders has also affected the performance on the field. City have already digested 40 goals in all competitions in the 2024-25 season. In recent years, they have conceded far fewer goals in the middle of the season. They had to raise their hand to the inside race to reduce the suffering of the defense.
