The U.S. Department of State has issued a travel advisory for its citizens regarding visits to Pakistan, urging them to reconsider travel to the country due to the potential risks of terrorist attacks and armed conflicts.
The Consular Affairs Bureau of the State Department released a Level 3 travel warning, stating that terrorists may target transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, military installations, airports, universities, tourist spots, schools, hospitals, places of worship, and government facilities with little or no warning.
According to the Global Terrorism Index, Pakistan emerged as the second most terrorism-affected country in the world in 2024. The death rate from terrorism in Pakistan increased by 45%, with fatalities rising from 748 in 2023 to 1,081 in 2024.
Additionally, the number of terrorist attacks in the country more than doubled from 517 in 2023 to 1,099 in 2024. Earlier this week, a terrorist attack on the Bannu military base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed at least five soldiers and 13 civilians. Security forces later killed 16 terrorists.
The U.S. State Department further noted that Pakistan’s security environment remains volatile and can change rapidly.
