USA Bangabandhu Parishad Informs US Congress About Yunus’s Illegal Government’s Human Rights Violations and Terrorist Activities in Bangladesh

USA Bangabandhu Parishad Informs US Congress About Yunus’s Illegal Government’s Human Rights Violations and Terrorist Activities in Bangladesh
The US-based Bangladeshi-American civic society has expressed grave concerns about the deterioration of law and order in Bangladesh, the release of identified militants and terrorists from prisons, the rise of extremism, persistent attacks on minorities, suppression of press freedom, and the arrest of pro-liberation and Awami League leaders and activists in fabricated cases. They have addressed these issues in a letter to 535 members of the US Congress and Senate.

Initiated by Dr. Nurun Nabi, President of the USA Bangabandhu Parishad, and General Secretary Rana Hasan Mahmood, the letter is signed by prominent Bangladeshi-Americans from various states. It holds Dr. Yunus, the chief adviser of the illegitimate caretaker government in Bangladesh, responsible for severe human rights violations and the rise of terrorism in the country.
Allegations in the Letter
The letter states that on August 5, 2024, under the guise of a student movement, religious extremist groups conspired to illegally overthrow Bangladesh’s elected government. These groups, including Jamaat-e-Islami, Hefazat-e-Islam, and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), carried out terrorist attacks across the country targeting minorities, law enforcement, and Awami League leaders, creating widespread chaos.

The letter highlights:
The killing of 750 police personnel and the destruction of 450 out of 629 police stations nationwide, with arms looted from these facilities.
Religious minorities, particularly Hindus, faced attacks which Dr. Yunus denies.
715 Awami League leaders and activists were killed, and many others were arrested under false charges.
Five Supreme Court judges, including the Chief Justice, were forcibly removed and replaced with individuals loyal to Dr. Yunus’s illegitimate government.
Media freedom was severely curtailed to prevent news of terrorism from reaching the international community, with numerous journalists and human rights activists arrested.
The letter also points out the destruction of over 1,500 cultural centers and historical sites, including the home of Bangladesh’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by extremist groups akin to the Taliban and ISIS.
Links to Global Terrorism
The letter alleges that Dr. Yunus has openly supported terrorist activities in Bangladesh, facilitating the emergence of extremist groups like Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and ISIS in the country. It warns that this poses a threat not only to South Asia but also to the United States.
Call to Action
The USA Bangabandhu Parishad urged Congress to pressure Dr. Yunus and his illegal government to restore law and order in Bangladesh and transfer power back to the elected government led by Sheikh Hasina. The letter emphasizes that such steps are necessary to ensure regional stability and safeguard US interests.
