US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has spoken over the phone with Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir. A spokesperson from the US State Department confirmed that the conversation took place on Friday (9 May). During the call, Rubio urged both India and Pakistan to find a path to reduce tensions.
According to the spokesperson, Rubio also offered US support to initiate constructive dialogue to prevent future conflict.
Pakistan has stated that it launched a military operation against India early Saturday morning. The operation reportedly targeted several bases, including a missile storage facility located in northern India.
Pakistan claims the attack was a retaliatory response to Indian aggression.
Observers believe that this is the most intense conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors in the last three decades.
